Diving into the world of headshot photography is a difficult with only a one light set-up. But it’s part of the fun that truly makes the shot. The entire process from taking the shot to touching it up makes the final shot that much more gratifying.

Central to the Point.

A good friend of mine, Jan Fune, was interested in doing a shoot in the city. More specifically: Central Park. Now I’ve never done a formal shoot in the park so logistically speaking it was definitely an interesting experience. For example: if you plan to shoot in the park: bring an assistant. Apparently the use of any light stands is against park rules without a permit. So if you’re of the Strobist school of lighting, get a friend to help you hold your wireless flash.

On another note, it was even more fun working behind the scenes with Jan being the primary photographer for this particular shoot. Assisting with lighting and equipment was a lot of fun, but what was really interesting was observing him in action with posing everybody. You learn something new out on the field every day, especially terms like: smize, and “look tranquil.”

Though most important in any shoot, there’s one thing you need to at least try to do: HAVE FUN.

Shawarma and all that good stuff.

So for the past couple of years my good friend Mohammed has been telling me his uncle’s cart runs circles around the famous 53rd and 6th cart in NYC. Of course, after 2 years of being a faithful customer to the famous carts, I was a bit skeptical. However, for the people that know me, I am always open to new kinds of foods. Today I had the opportunity to experience the chicken and shawarma from the 2009 Vendy Award nominated King of Falafel & Shawarma cart at 30th and Broadway in Astoria, NY owned and operated by Chef Freddy.

In Jersey tradition, I trekked out to Astoria (note to self: switch Astoria with whatever far away land where I discover new food) to see what was so amazing about the food from this cart. This isn’t the cheap gyro meat at the local no name cart. Only succulent shawarma spins on the broiler and perfectly marinated chicken on the grill. I’m not sure what they use in the marinade, but the flavor in the meats will have me coming back for more.

Orientation.

Fordham College at Lincoln Center’s 3 Day orientation was downright one of the most grueling days of event coverage I have ever done. With the chaos of move-in, anxiety of parents, and anxiousness of new students to just dive right into the college life, I had the opportunity to capture so many different angles of Fordham that I used to think of as only an afterthought. Overall it makes me proud to say We are Fordham.

Commute

Simply put, I think what I see in the viewfinder has changed  significantly from where I started. As to what it is exactly, I can’t exactly pin it. However, I will tell you it’s because of the people around me that it is influenced.
